Interview Q&A
Step 1. Greet the guest.
During this step, you greet the guest with a good morning or good afternoon. Ask them if they have taken their breakfast/lunch/merienda already. Connect with them so that they will feel comfortable throughout the entire process of the screening.
Step 2. Ask them if they have checked our channel already.
There are guests who are interested because they've been watching our channels already but there are also guests who got a little to no idea about who we are and what we do. Here's a quick guide to our channels:
Passions: This channel highlights the passion or expertise of a specific person towards a specific skill, talent and etc.
TaTak: This channel caters to small businesses that are into arts & crafts. Preferably, these small businesses should be homegrown in our country. We feature the process of how they make their products in an ASMR way.
Skyline: This channel provides a platform for indie or rising artists from the Philippines.
At The Backdoor: This channel is a place where people are free to discuss socially relevant issues, taboo topics, and other pressing issues in our society.
Off The Record: This channel is meant to showcase the life stories of other people.
Step 3. Verify their information.
Certain guests have this tendency to put an error with the info that they have provided. Here's a list of the things that you have to verify:
Name (How to pronounce it)
Contact number
Willingness to participate as a volunteer (Inform them that even if they'll be participating as a volunteer, they are eligible for a Php500 worth of transportation allowance and some food & drinks during the interview)
Willingness to send us the necessary pictures (The pictures will be inserted at certain parts of their episode and this only happens if it's applicable)
Their allergies (If they have any. We need to know if they have food allergies.)
Step 4. Ask for consent before recording.
Violating the Data Privacy Act is one of the last things that we would want to happen. It is important for us to ask for consent before we do the recordings to avoid violating the privacy of our potential guests. Ask them if it's okay for us to record the succeeding parts and tell them about the purpose of the recorded interview.
The purpose of the recorded interview is as follows:
For the team. The team may go back and use it during the deliberation process.
For the host. If accepted, the host may use it to review and get to know the guest and topic better.
Step 5. The Recorded Interview.
During this step, the community manager should ask the potential guest some relevant questions that will help the team identify if the guest is worthy enough to become a part of our show. Here are some guide questions that could help you.
For At The Backdoor
When you are conducting an interview for a potential guest in At The Backdoor, it is important for you to ask questions that are related to the topic. Hence, the importance of you being knowledgeable about it. Here is some general question that is applicable to any topic:
What is the importance of this topic?
Why should we have it here in At The Backdoor?
Do you have experience before when it comes to public speaking, seminars, etc.?
If the person identifies him or her as a member of the LGBT community, ask for his/her pronouns.
If the topic in the form is too broad, narrow it down. For example, it's about mental health, what about mental health that they should be talking about?
What are the common misconceptions of a common Filipino towards this topic?
For Off The Record
Just be curious. Have a discussion with the guest.
Step 6. Wrap up & End of Recording.
There are instances where in the guest will be carried away but our Zoom account is not on premium. Therefore, you need to cut them when the "Last 10 minutes left" shows on your screen. Cut whatever they're saying in a nice and polite way. Here's what you can tell them: "Excuse me. I'm sorry. As much as I wanted to talk/discuss everything with you, we don't really have enough time left and I still have the next guest to interview. I will now be ending the recording." Make sure to find the right time in doing so. Don't be abrupt.
There are instances wherein there's still so much time but the guest no longer has any other answers and you no longer have any other questions. At this point, you may now end the recording.
Step 7. Questions, concerns, and other necessary details that the guest might be needing.
After ending the recording, make sure to ask the guest if they have further questions or concerns that they might want to ask. If there's none, assure them that they can send you an email in case they forgot to raise it during this screening process.
Step 8. End of the Interview.
Inform the guest that they'll be receiving an email from you if ever they'll be accepted or not after the deliberation. Bid your farewells and end the meeting. Wait for the recording to download before starting a new meeting with your next guest. Upload the recorded meeting to their respective Google Drive folders.
